  • On “Being Green”Ā and “Global Warming”Ā

I grew-up in Binghamton, New York – actually a ā€œsuburbā€ of Binghamton, New Yorkcalled West Corners. West Corners was a nice little community and, as a child, seemed more akin to ā€œGreen Acresā€ and ā€œThe Waltonsā€ than the nearby birthplace of such industrial stalwarts as Endicott-Johnson Shoes (remember ā€œFather and Son Shoes”?), Link Simulation (the founding father of modern simulation) and that industrial giant, International Business Machines (IBM).

I remember the summers with great fondness. I used to wake-up early in the morning and head to ā€œthe crickā€ – also known as Nanticoke Creek – with fishing rod in hand and old shoes (or at least soon-to-be old shoes). We used to fish all day long, catching minnows and crawdads by hand for bait. When we got bored, we swam. And when we got hungry, we started a campfire and cooked-up the fish and crawdads we had caught. Sometimes, and when in season, we would pick ears of corn and throw them on the fire – husk and all. There is no better way to eat corn then roasted in their husks on an open fire

  • Weighing in on Healthcare

I have refrained from discussing Healthcare in my articles because the topic is so politically polarized.Ā Ā If I say that I am ā€œforā€ healthcare reform, I am labeled a ā€œsocialistā€ (or worse) who is against free-markets – and if I say that I am against healthcare reform, then I am a heartless free-market capitalist. I wonder,…

With rebuilding spirit, we lookĀ with great anticipation to what lay before us in the comingĀ year. And, most importantly, we lookĀ to connect over…

  • Start Building a Better Future Today

What a difference a year makes… Looking back atĀ my last year’s Holiday articleĀ called 2008Ā ā€œThe year of quicksandā€Ā I made several references to the rip-saw in the economy and the plummet of almost every known economic indicator. Some pundits were even speaking of an ā€œeconomic Armageddonā€. Everything is still not back to the ā€œbeforeā€ – with the…

  • When “Information”Ā Becomes “Noise”

It seems that every day brings with it a new way to pass information – some to varying degrees of want. With a constant stream of data and touch-points, when does it all become a blended and deafening cacophony of ā€œnoiseā€?Ā Ā How can one ā€œsquelchā€ out the static and focus on that which is truly important?Ā Ā How…
