– Niccolo Machiavelli
What a year makes..! The M&A landscape in June 2009 is vastly different from June 2008 – where sellers could command a premium price and buyers were comfortable in the fact that the leverage would be available and they could flip their investment in a few short years.
Those days are gone, probably forever. What does the future look like?
Unlike a liquid equity, such as a publicly traded share, investments from Private Equity and Hedge Funds are locked-in with limited exit strategies available. And what about the leverage used in the acquisition? How does a company keep from tripping ever more egregious covenants? Is it wise for such an investor to simply sit passively on the sideline?
Instead of waiting for the flip, what about making a real go of it? Afterall, there must have been something attractive about the business in the first place to warrant the investment. How might one achieve EBITDA goals by improving company performance and achieving a level of Operational Excellence?
The discussions will address leveraging Operational Excellence (Lean, Six-Sigma and Leadership) in driving stakeholder value though business optimizations (transformational organization change), efficiencies (execution and realization), and the pursuit of perfection (continuous improvement).
